DIY Girls – 2019 Video

December 16, 2019

Dear DIY Girls Supporter,

With the year coming to an end, I am excited to share our 2019 trajectory! We reached a milestone of serving 4,000 girls through our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)-based education programs and activities since 2012! One year ago, we also launched GANAS, a leadership and support network comprised of our 26 high school program alumni, all of whom are enrolled in college, with 88% currently pursuing a STEAM-related major.

Our alumni also continue giving back to the community. America, a sophomore at Los Angeles Mission College studying Civil Engineering, now serves as a role model and instructor for our elementary and middle school girls. America recently shared, “I love that DIY Girls was able to help me discover myself a lot more in terms of making me more outspoken and inspiring me to major in civil engineering.”

During the 2018-2019 academic year, we partnered with 15 school sites, as well as Mayor Garcetti’s office, and community based organizations to serve 816 girls, 454 of whom participated in our core programs. Ninety one percent of girls in our programs would like to participate in more activities that are related to science or engineering, and 91% of girls believe they can be successful in any job/career in STEAM-related fields. I’m extraordinarily proud of everything DIY Girls was able to accomplish in 2019 and nothing makes me more joyful than witnessing firsthand the impact our programs have on each of the girls we serve. Girls like Alejandra, a college-bound senior who notes, “The most valuable part of being an Invent Girl is that I am able to take action and create something. It gives me the opportunity to develop many skills I can use in the future.”

As the year draws to a close, I ask that you show your support for DIY Girls by making a contribution towards our STEAM-based programs. Please make your check payable to Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs/DIY Girls and mail your donation to P.O. Box 330662, Pacoima, CA 91333. You can also donate online at www.diygirls.org/donate. Let’s show more girls that a future in STEAM is within their reach!

Sincerely,
