Glow Studio: Frequently Asked Questions

Glow Studio: Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join Glow Studio? Everyone! We invite all members of our community, regardless of gender, to step into our studio. It’s a space for any adult who wants to learn, create, and invest in the next generation of engineers and artists.

What exactly is Glow Studio?
It is a 5-week creative workshop series where you’ll blend traditional art with modern technology. You’ll paint a canvas piece and incorporate 3D-printed elements and LED circuitry to literally make your art glow.

When and where does the class meet? The studio runs every Thursday from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, starting June 4th and ending July 2nd. All sessions are held at the DIY Girls Office in San Fernando.

What should I wear? Wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting paint on and closed-toed shoes.

How much does it cost, and what is included? The cost is $200. This covers all 5 weeks of instruction, art supplies, 3D printing elements, and all electronic components (batteries, solder, LEDs, wires, etc.).

Do I need to be an artist or an engineer to join? Not at all! This is an introductory course. Whether you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since grade school or you’ve never built a circuit, we will guide you through every step.

Because everyone has different painting abilities, we’re providing a paint-by-numbers canvas. This canvas is divided into shapes, each labeled with a number corresponding to a specific paint color. This allows users to create a finished painting by filling in the matching areas.

Where does my $200 go? As this is a fundraising pilot, 100% of the proceeds go directly back into DIY Girls, helping us fund our core STEAM programming for girls in our community. You get a creative experience; our students get continued access to high-quality STEAM programming.

How many people will be in the class? To ensure everyone gets hands-on help and access to the equipment, we are capping the pilot at 12 participants.

What if I’m late or miss a session? While we encourage everyone to attend the entirety of the 5 sessions to complete the project, we know life happens, and we will provide “catch-up” guidance to the best of our ability if you happen to be late or miss a session.

Is there an age limit? Yes, this specific program is designed for adults (18+).

Will there be food and drinks available? We’ll have snacks and refreshing non-alcoholic drinks available at every session.
