We are thrilled to announce that three of our Invent Girls were invited to the United States Capitol as the congressional app challenge winners to demonstrate their app, Admonere, at #HouseOfCode from April 17-18th. Every spring, winning teams are invited to Capitol Hill to demo their apps to their Representatives at a celebration called #HouseOfCode. It’s the most prestigious demo day for students in STEM — the new national science fair. At #HouseOfCode, students see their apps displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building, meet their Representatives, and connect with other coders from around the country!
The Congressional App Challenge winners are Invent Girls participants and San Fernando High School seniors, Karimar Trujillo, Montserrat Ramos-Lopez, and Fabiola Martinez! The girls submitted a revamped version of their 2021-22 Invent Girls project, titled Admonere, an app that leads users through efficient study sessions by organizing assignments by difficulty, deadlines, and subject, all while using the Pomodoro technique. When asked about the impact DIY Girls had on their trajectory, Monsteratt shared, “I love the relationships that I made in the program, the fun projects, and getting to explore the STEM Field in different ways.” After high school, Karimar will pursue a Computer Engineering degree, Montserrat will be majoring in Computer Science, and Fabiola is looking into studying Computer Science or Software Engineering.
